Your social authority or expert status is key in making you a stand out in your industry. Personal branding will be even more important in 2022 and beyond. The impact of the pandemic and growing number of start-ups mean that competition will be tough and to stand out, you need a personal brand that connects with your target audience on all levels. Check out my top five tips to tidy up and elevate your personal brand.
Update your resume and/or media kit - not only is it much less stressful to have your resume and/or media kit up to date for those unexpected times you need it but it also helps you keep on top of your achievements and new skills. These updates should then flow over into your socials and website.
Stalk yourself online - what do people find when they look you up or stumble across you online? Is it what you want potential clients, partners or customers to see? Yes, we want to show your authentic self but you also want to put forward an image that truely reflects you and your brand!
Get social on your socials - engage, engage, engage! Building meaningful connections has never been easier. You can leave open ended comments, show you support on the pages of others in your industry or area and be a valued member of communities by sharing your tips on your area of expertise. PR yourself - that thing that people always ask you about, that area that you are particularly qualified in…This is your collateral - your expert knowledge. And, you want to share it, for free with publications, blogs, podcasts and websites. Public relations and media exposure is there for the taking, journalists are always looking for good content. Start by having a scroll through Sourcebottle for call outs to get an idea of what you could contribute to as an expert.
Build a strong network - your network should expand further than your Instagram account. Of course, a great online presence is fantastic but consider other ways you can build your personal brand - in your community, your industry and in your target market. Being a guest speaker at events, going on a podcast, participating in community initiatives and attending networking events (in person and online) connects you with people from various backgrounds and elevates your online presence as well.
