Things to do in Lake Macquarie
Got a weekend planned in the beautiful Lake Macquarie? I grew up here so I thought I’d share a few of my favourites.
Beaches - The beaches that stretch along the coastline of Lake Macquarie are some of the best in the world. My personal favourites are Blacksmiths and Caves Beach but they are all spectacular!
Shopping - If you are looking for the mall experience you’ll find Charlestown Square and Westfield Kotara both have great restaurants and cinemas as well as the usual department and chain stores. If you want to go more local and shop small there are great shopping precincts in the main streets of Belmont, Toronto and Warner’s Bay, to name a few, where you can pick up homewares and clothing, many with a coastal vibe.
Eating - There are multiple points where you can grab a meal with water views. Some of my favourites are Belmont 16s, Canon at Warner’s Bay and Pippi’s at the Point which are all located on the edges of the lake.
Accommodation - from tourist parks and Airbnb’s to luxury bungalows there is something to suit everyone. We booked out a good portion of Blacksmiths Beachside Holiday Park for our wedding and we were very happy!
Day trips - you also have the options of heading into Newcastle for the nightlife, booking a wine tour up in the Hunter Valley or checking out the nature walks in Port Stephens.
